Explore new ways to use pastel pencils. Create beautiful sketches, drawings, or even finished works rich in pigment with many colors. Pastel pencils may be used with soft pastels or can serve as a cleaner alternative to pastel sticks with no mess & little setup time.

Meets: (3) Saturday Afternoons at 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM (3-hour duration)

Format: Demonstration, lecture, & one-on-one instruction provided during hands-on practice.
Level: Absolute beginner to beginner. All levels are welcome!

Technique: A variety of approaches to pastel pencils or the pastel medium
Materials: The instructor will email the materials list before the first day of class.
Topics
- Surfaces - What to use? "Texture" or "smoothness" of the paper affects this medium's look, toned paper versus white paper.
- Sharpening - how to cut away the wood and customize the tip for the best tonal effects
- Drawing - Basic drawing concepts on line, shape & value
- Blending - is especially important for creating flat tones, transitions, and mixing colors.
- Style - loose or painterly versus hyper-realistic or photographic.
- Manufacturers - not all brands are created equal. Compare and learn what makes them unique.
