Landscapes in the Studio: Beauty of Trees (Oct. 2023)

Art Verve Academy

Let’s bring the beauty of trees into the studio. Trees have such interesting shapes, textures, and complexity, with a lot of room for interpretation and play! It is helpful to understand how using atmospheric perspective, edges, and temperature can create depth in a vast landscape. The same principles can also apply to creating depth and dimensionality within the form of a single tree.

A tree can be the star of your landscape. It is made up of a variety of shapes and intricate details that must all visually work together. Spend time building and layering the colors, edges, and textures of its richly complex form. There are many different techniques that are useful for painting trees. Lisa will model each step of her process and encourage you to consider various approaches to make it your own. The painting demoed will be in oil, but modifications will be discussed if using a different media. Come paint a magnificent tree!
