Abstracting From Nature
(Oct. 2024)

Art Verve Academy

Nature is filled with incredible shapes, colors, textures, and patterns.  It is fun and incredibly free to start with a few natural elements and then repeat, distort, or simplify them to create beautiful abstract compositions or stylized landscapes.

Horizontal bands of color can read intuitively, like sky and land.  Vertical lines can become trees.  Repeating patterns and textures become foliage.  If you are interested in creating abstract art, explore using elements of nature.  If you want to improve your landscape paintings, learning to see a landscape abstractly will help you paint the parts in relationship to each other, and you can explore different styles. Nature is the inspiration, but the possibilities through abstraction are endless!
